Why is teakwood always the first choice for outdoor use?
Teak is an immensely stable hard & dense wood with a high oil and rubber content which makes it virtually immune to rotting and a favorite for use in constructing sailboats and outdoor patio furniture. Only the finest quality plantation teak is selected for use in our products, combined with solid brass hardware and mortise & tenon joinery makes for durable, attractive garden furniture. - First, be sure you are purchasing 100% solid high grade, plantation grown teak and not furniture made from Shorea wood or a combination of teak veneer and lesser quality woods that do not have the same longevity and reliability.
- Second, prior to construction, teak wood must be kiln dried (not air dried) precisely to an optimal moisture content of 10% to 12% to ensure against warping and splitting.
- Third, at Patioline, we utilize the mortise & tenon joinery method buttressed by wood dowels & solid brass fittings, ensuring the strongest possible construction. Our teak is heavy-weight, with extra thick construction.

Care of Teak:
Teak requires little care and will maintain its strength and attractiveness for decades to come. Untreated wood, exposed to water, snow and UV rays will oxidize and take on a silver- grey patina. This is a natural process and does affect the integrity of  the wood.
The surface of the teak wood will become drier when exposed to the sun. This may then cause the surface pores to open and feel a little rough. You can smooth the surface by brushing the wood with a gentle but firm brush, or by gently sanding the wood with 220 grit sand paper with the grain. In the course of time, small cracks will develop in the wood called “checking” especially at the ends of the slats due to the contraction and expansion process. This is a common occurrence in a natural wood product and absolutely normal. It does not influence the durability or the strength of the wood. Do not use a high pressure washer as it can raise the grain of the wood.
It is personal taste as to whether a person wishes to allow the teak to weather to a silver grey-patina or to maintain the original golden brown colour of the wood.
If you choose to allow your furniture to weather naturally, do nothing accept a periodic cleaning with a mild soap and a warm bucket of water. If you choose to protect your furniture from the weathering process, your furniture will need to be sealed annually depending on sun exposure.
Patioline recommends sealing your furniture with Semco Teak Sealer which is available in a Honey-Tone, Natural or Classic Brown colour. Semco sealer prevents your furniture from weathering to a silver grey, limits the potential for mildew and eliminates deep cleaning issues. |

Batyline Sling Fabric:
Batyline is a French made material consisting of a polyester fiber covered by a coating of PVC making it nearly impossible to tear.
It is a light-weight, tough and easy to clean material with excellent resistance to UV rays, and withstands fading and mildew.
Sagging is minimal with a maximum stretch of 5% which will slowly stretch back to its original shape after it has been used, especially when placed out in the sun. Colours available: Black / Ivory / Natural.
Cleaning Batyline:
Clean and to wash the Batyline Fabric by using warm water and a mild soap. Rinse thoroughly with water after cleaning.
Scouring agents and solvents are to be strictly avoided.

The Environment & Teak:
All our teak patio furniture is sourced from Java exclusively from the highly reputable Perum Perhutani plantations managed by the Indonesian government. The plantations date back 150 years to when Java was a Dutch colony and settlers planted the very first teak saplings.
Since that time, a great number of other plantations have grown and flourished on the island of Java. High priority is given to continuous replanting of Indonesian timber resources.
